The 22nd Edition of Paris quartier d’été — the festival designed to “wake Paris up” from the July/August lull — kicked off yesterday with a bang, and the opening show, The Manganiyar Seduction, can be seen again today and tomorrow in the Cour d’honneur des Invalides.
Originally created for the opening of the New Delhi Film festival in 2006, The Manganiyar Seduction is an original combination of Jaipur palaces and Amsterdam’s Red Light DIstrict windows: 43 Manganiyar musicians seated in 36 red-curtained cubicles, arranged in rows. The concert begins as one box is illuminated, and builds up as the rest light up and join in. Roysten Abel, the artist behind the project, says, “The normal practise is to take and use music for theatre but here [we reverse] the process and [use] theatre to create magic in music.”
Where: Cour d’honneur des Invalides, access at Rue de Grenelle (Google map)
When: July 15 & 16 at 21:45
Prices: vary depending on seating, from €5 to €14
