Helmut Newton at Grand Palais March 24 – June 17 2012
Thursday, March 22nd, 2012The exhibition brings together more than two hundred photographs, mostly original or vintage prints made under Helmut Newton’s supervision: Polaroid, working prints in various sizes, monumental works. It will be supported by press records, and a film made by his wife of sixty years, the photographer June Newton: Helmut by June. It takes a retrospective, thematic angle. Through the major themes in his work: fashion, nudes, portraits, sex and humour, the exhibition seeks to show that Newton was much more than a fashion photographer. (source: rmn.fr)

Pairs under water – exhibition at the Catacombs
Thursday, March 22nd, 2012Who would imagine today that Paris was under water? Best known to house the municipal ossuary in Paris, the old quarries of building stone, commonly called "Catacombs", are now the only place in Paris where you can tell the recent history of the Earth in situ. This exhibition aims to highlight a little-known aspect of the Catacombs: its geological heritage, a treasure trove of underground Paris that flowed 45millions years ago. It reveals traces of a time when Paris was occupied by a tropical sea, and invites the visitor to discover fossils of animals and crustaceans, as well as geological formations that distinguish the different historical periods according irregularities in the earth's crust.
The exhibition started March 20 and is running til March 3, 2013

Animal Beauty – exhibition at Grand Palais March 21 – July 16
Wednesday, March 21st, 2012Ever since the Renaissance, artists and naturalists have observed animals closely and represented them as accurately as they could. Nevertheless, naturalism ends where the norm and morality begin: various ethical and aesthetic criteria were established which influenced the artists’ point of view. There is extraordinary variety in the ways the same animal is represented. They reveal our fascination and curiosity for a world whose diversity is far from fully explored. Through a set of major works, the exhibition looks at the relationships that artists, often great painters and sculptors, have developed with animals. (source: rmn.fr)
