Aux sources de la peinture aborigène
Information:
The exhibition presents for the first time in Europe a major artistic movement, born in 1971-72, in the community of Papunya in the heart of Central Australian Desert. Transposing ritual paintings on recycled wood panels , Aboriginal artists of Papunya created a stunning formal invention, saturated with meaning. These works changed the way of understanding the land - with over 160 paintings and nearly 100 objects and historical photographs, the exhibition traces the iconographic sources and spiritual movement of Papunya and traces its evolution since the first panels to large canvases of the early 80s.
